Position Summary
Reporting to the Philanthropy Officer, Grant Writers prepare and finalize outgoing grant proposals and applications for the Mental Health Foundation and its funded projects. Grant Writers draft and finalize coherent, organized, and compelling proposals and funding requests to engage potential granting organizations and partners. Grant Writers are phenomenal writers and adapt their writing styles to reflect the prospect by collecting insights about the funding organization, its mission, funding pillars, and ensuring alignment with our fundraising objectives. To be successful in this role you will need to write well, have proficient knowledge of fundraising methods, and be adaptable to both emotional and analytical appeals. Preferred applicants are deadline-driven, team players with the ability to balance multiple priorities.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Collaborating with the Philanthropy Officer and select individuals on the Philanthropy team to gather necessary programmatic and financial information.
- Research and identify grant opportunities aligned with organizational priorities.
- Maintain a calendar of submission deadlines, reporting schedules, and renewal timelines.
- The Grant Writer takes the lead to write, edit, and proofread proposals (& letters of inquiry, applications, reports, and supporting documents) to ensure accuracy, consistency, and compliance with grant requirements.
- Building knowledge and understanding of the organization’s history and funded programs/services; including creating and collecting the necessary documentation, support materials, and statistics for funding requests.
- Adherence to the organization’s mission, vision, and values.
Qualifications
- Two years of experience as a successful grant writer. Experience should demonstrate a proven track record of securing new funding opportunities, comprehensive knowledge of research, and the ability to distinguish and identify opportunities.
- Preference for a Bachelor degree, with a focus in writing or related field.
- Understanding of nonprofit budgeting and program evaluation.
- Strong research skills with the ability to gather and analyze information and summarize and present findings in an easily understandable format.
- Motivated self-starter with the ability to work independently with purpose, accuracy, and timeliness.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office.
- Excellent communication skills (verbal and written); including technical writing, proofreading, editing, copywriting, or other equivalent written communication formats with the ability to present information clearly, concisely, persuasively, and professionally.
- Highly organized with strong attention to detail.
- Demonstrated ability to develop processes, coordinate overlapping projects, and work with multiple deadlines.
