Highway to Healing: Driving the Conversation on Mental Health will put you in the driver’s seat of transformational change for mental illness and addiction care across the province. Hosted in Sherwood Motorcars’ luxury showroom event space, this evening is dedicated to conversations destigmatizing mental health and supporting critical initiatives across Alberta.

Enjoy signature mocktail and cocktail options, upscale small bites, a fundraising auction, and mingle with like-minded individuals passionate about making a difference. The event will feature a heartfelt and thought-provoking panel discussion where individuals with lived experience of mental illness and addiction will share their stories of resilience and hope.

Aileen Giesbrecht

Brantt Myhres played for the Tampa Bay Lightning, Philadelphia Flyers, San Jose Sharks, Nashville Predators, Washington Capitals, and Boston Bruins. He was suspended four times by the NHL for failing drug tests and was eventually banned from the league for life. After becoming clean and sober and studying substance abuse behavioral health at Mount Royal University in Calgary, Myhres was hired by the Los Angeles Kings in September 2015 as the team’s player assistance director.

Patrick Priestner, the CEO of CanadaOne Auto, stands as a testament to the power of perseverance, vision, and unwavering dedication. Beyond his professional achievements, Patrick is deeply committed to philanthropy and community engagement. Alongside his wife, Diana, he has supported hundreds of community organizations, contributing to various causes and initiatives that aim to improve the lives of others. His dedication to mental health advocacy is particularly noteworthy, reflecting his belief in the importance of well-being and self-compassion.

Tyler Smith is a 21-year-old survivor of the 2018 Humboldt Broncos bus crash, which claimed the lives of 16 of his teammates, staff members, and coaches. After physically recovering, he returned to the Broncos for ten games but realized that he needed to prioritize his mental health and take a step back from the game. Tyler has since made progress with his mental health recovery, including utilizing self-care tools like counselling.

Tyler is now passionate about sharing his story and being a mental health advocate. He co-hosts a podcast called ‘Speak Your Mind’ with NHL veteran Riley Sheahan and has also founded a mental health awareness clothing line called ‘Not Alone Co.’ The clothing line aims to facilitate meaningful conversations around mental health and donates portions of the proceeds to different charities and foundations across Canada.

Tyler hopes to continue public speaking, advocating for mental health, and sharing his stories with those who may need them. He believes in the power of a conversation and wants to build a lasting community focused on vulnerability and conversation.

Pamela Spurvey is an Indigenous Cree woman from the Beaver Lake Cree Nation in Alberta. She works as an Indigenous Wellness Coordinator at Henwood Treatment Center and serves as a Recovery Life Skills Coach/Mentor for the Drug Treatment Courts across Alberta. With over 17 years of personal recovery, Pamela’s experiences with mental health and substance use struggles, homelessness, the criminal system and the foster care system deeply informs her ability to relate to others facing similar struggles. In time, with self-help groups and guidance from community supports and Indigenous culture she was able to gain a sense of hope and find her way out of darkness back to her children, her community and herself. Pamela is actively involved in various committees where she uses her lived and ongoing experiences to advocate for systemic change and amplify people’s voices to drive meaningful transformation. Her work focuses on fostering culturally inclusive care and developing effective recovery frameworks aimed at creating sustainable and impactful change for those she supports.

As a seasoned executive with more than 20 years in business, health care and the community sector, DeAnn is known for driving transformational change, maximizing operational excellence and building collaborations to enhance the lives of individuals. DeAnn is passionate about mental health and community development. She has held numerous community board appointments including Board Chair for Boys’ & Girls’ Clubs Big Brothers Big Sisters, Board Chair for Terra Centre and Board Chair with the Mental Health Foundation.
