Job Title: Content Coordinator
Reports to: Director, Philanthropy
Location: Edmonton, Alberta (Hybrid)
Hybrid Work Model: In office three days/week

Background
The Mental Health Foundation (MHF) raises funds to enhance mental illness and addictions recovery by accelerating the discovery and adoption of research, connecting systems of care, and improving patient experiences and outcomes through strategic facility investments. MHF supports essential programs and services to ensure Albertans have accessible mental health care when they need it most.
Position Summary
The Content Coordinator supports MHF’s fundraising and community engagement efforts by producing clear, compelling storytelling that highlights the organization’s mission and impact. This role creates written and visual content for donor‑facing communications and digital channels to support fundraising appeals and effectively convey the stories that inspire donor support. The position also provides hands‑on support during community events and adapts to evolving organizational needs. The right person for this role will work with community partners to collect their stories and shape them into narratives that help donors understand and feel the impact of our work.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Producing engaging, clear storytelling for donor communications, social media channels, email newsletters, and website enhancements that align with MHF’s mission, brand, and style guidelines.
- Collaborate with community partners to gather stories, photos, and updates that can inform high-quality content to communicate impact and need.
- Create visually engaging graphics using Canva or equivalent design tools to support campaigns, events, social media, newsletters, and donor communications.
- Support on-site at community events, including set-up, registration, donor engagement, and troubleshooting.
- Other duties, as required.
Qualifications and Skills
- Currently enrolled as a student or recent graduate in a relevant field (eg. Journalism, Marketing, Communications, English).
- Strong writing and storytelling skills with the ability to convey ideas clearly and impactfully.
- Previous experience in content creation, coordination, or graphic design, preferably within a nonprofit organization is an asset.
- Comfortable interacting with a diverse range of stakeholders and attending community events as a representative of MHF.
- Strong organization and coordination skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Ability to work independently to complete assigned projects within defined deadlines using keen attention to detail.
- Collaborative mindset with the ability to work effectively within a team.
- Experience using Microsoft 365, Constant Contact, Adobe Creative Cloud, and Canva is an asset.
- Familiarity with or interest in fundraising and philanthropy, particularly in the field of mental health and addictions, is an asset.
- A portfolio of written and graphic design work is an asset.
- Valid Class 5 Driver’s License with a good driving record (abstract) and reliable vehicle is required.

Position Summary
The Event Coordinator’s main responsibility will be to support community event organizers that fundraise on our behalf, including but not limited to attending events as a representative of the MHF, providing event expertise, working with AGLC, and gathering relevant event materials. Other responsibilities include the collaborative planning and execution of upcoming Mental Health Foundation (MHF) events, ensuring they run smoothly, successfully, and reinforce strategic goals such as donor engagement and retention. This role will also include administrative tasks like database maintenance to support day-to-day operations. To excel in this role, the candidate should have good organizational skills and a keen eye for detail, as well as a passion for mental health, event planning, fundraising, and logistics. This internship provides an excellent opportunity to gain hands-on experience in event management, develop valuable collaboration skills, and contribute to the success of exciting and diverse events at a rapidly growing charity.

- Previous experience in event management or a related field is an asset.

Job Title: Philanthropy Officer

Position Summary
The Philanthropy Officer plays a key role in advancing the Mental Health Foundation’s annual and mid‑level giving program through donor relationship management, proactive prospect development, and leadership of mass fundraising and email marketing efforts. Reporting to the Director of Philanthropy, this role manages and grows a portfolio of individual donors, prospects, and family foundations, with a strong focus on donor acquisition, engagement, and retention.
In addition to individualized donor outreach, the Philanthropy Officer oversees the planning and execution of mass marketing and email fundraising campaigns during key peak periods, including holiday appeals, Giving Tuesday, and Mental Health Week. The role works collaboratively across the organization to align messaging with fundraising priorities, move donors through the giving pipeline, and ensure consistent, meaningful stewardship. Success in this position requires a highly proactive, organized, and relationship‑driven approach to growing philanthropic support for mental health initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
- Donor Portfolio Management
- Manage and grow a portfolio of annual and mid-level prospects, donors, and family foundations
- Develop individualized engagement strategies to deepen donor relationships and advance prospects toward solicitation
- Develop mass communication during peak seasons – holiday campaign, giving Tuesday, mental health week, etc.
- Conduct regular outreach through meetings, calls, events, and tailored communications
- Prospect Identification and Development
- Identify, qualify, and research new prospective donors and family foundations
- Collaborate with the Director of Philanthropy and Director of Community Engagement to move prospects through the donor pipeline
- Leverage internal data, research tools, and networks to expand the prospect pool
- Solicitation and Stewardship
- Plan and execute donor solicitations that align donor interests with organizational priorities
- Prepare and support the development of customized proposals and gift agreements as needed
- Steward donors through timely acknowledgements, impact reporting, and ongoing engagement
- Collaboration and Strategy
- Work closely with the Director of Philanthropy and development team to support overall fundraising goals
- Partner with senior leadership, the President & CEO, and volunteers to support donor engagement and solicitations
- Contribute to the ongoing development of fundraising strategies, systems, and best practices
- Administration and Reporting
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date records in the donor database
- Track portfolio activity, progress against goals, and revenue outcomes
- Provide regular reports and insights to inform fundraising strategy
Qualifications and Experience
- Minimum of 3–5 years of fundraising, relationship management, or relevant development experience, preferably in mid-level or major gifts
- Demonstrated success in donor acquisition, portfolio management, and moving prospects through the donor pipeline
- Experience planning and executing mass fundraising and email marketing campaigns, including seasonal and time‑bound appeals
- Proven ability to research, identify, and qualify new donor and foundation prospects using internal data and research tools
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with attention to detail and tone in donor‑facing materials
- Ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues, senior leadership, and volunteers in a fast‑paced, results‑driven environment
- Experience working with donor databases and fundraising tools
