Building Together

Impact Story

Dec. 1, 2023 – Feb. 28, 2024

Edmonton Construction Association partners with the Mental Health Foundation

At the heart of every structure built, stands a team of hardworking individuals. Their physical strength is obvious, but we also understand the importance of their mental well-being. That’s why, in a ground-breaking partnership, the Edmonton Construction Association (ECA) has joined forces with the Mental Health Foundation (MHF). Together, we aim to create an accessible, integrated, and comprehensive mental health support system for those in the construction industry.

Power of a Thousand

The ECA and MHF are jointly launching the Power of a Thousand campaign, inviting all 1000 ECA member organizations to each contribute $1000 to the MHF. The campaign aims to garner a collective total of $1,000,000.

The primary focus of this initiative is to channel funds into a milestone project — renovating Alberta Hospital Edmonton (AHE). This renovation represents the first patient-facing upgrade in over 50 years, signifying a long-awaited and crucial step in enhancing patient care in the province.

Join us in this monumental initiative, as we strive to create a more compassionate, patient-centric model of care — one room at a time. Together, through the Power of a Thousand, we can ensure that patients at AHE receive the quality mental health care they deserve.

Making Mental Health Accessible

As part of this partnership, ECA members will benefit from a range of resources designed to promote and maintain mental well-being.

A Partnership Built on Solid Foundations

In line with our corporate values of collaboration, optimism, trustworthiness, and thriving, this partnership serves as a testament to our commitment to extend mental health support to all sectors. Our vision is clear: to build a society that values mental health as much as physical health. One where everyone has access to the care they need. We’re not just talking about it, we’re building it — together.

Demonstrating a shared commitment to this cause, the ECA and MHF believe this initiative will encourage other associations to take similar steps and make mental health a priority in their respective sectors. Together, we can build a stronger mental health system for Alberta.

Rebuilding Alberta Hospital Edmonton

The first phase of this ambitious project will be to transform the Rachel H. Young Pavilion (Building 8) into a single-room facility. This will improve patient comfort, privacy, and overall experience. Reducing overcrowding facilitates a more personalized approach to care, allowing patients to recover in a tranquil and dignified environment.

This renovation is much more than a structural upgrade — it’s a transformative leap forward in the way we approach mental health care. It’s about creating spaces that contribute positively to the healing process, environments where patients feel respected, cared for, and understood. We are not just changing the physical surroundings — we’re reshaping the future of mental health care in the province.
